Hello,
Recently I bought a 1 Naira (Nigeria) Bi-metal coin.
As per catalogue it says brass in centre.
I checked centr piece with magnet to verify the coin.
But the centre piece is magnetic and looks like not brass. Could you confirm, the metal information of above mentioned coin. Thanks in advance.

They forgot to change the material, diameter and weight from the old one.

Yes, you are right that the diameter and weight coincide with the old 1 Naira coin, but the material says Brass plated steel , when the old one, at least according to Numista, was made of Nickel plated steel. No idea...🤔

Thank you all for immediate response. From the official government website it seems the material in center is brass plated steel.
Special thanks to oynbcn

Difficult to know, the coin as a whole is magnetic, I haven't a magnet small enough for the middle of the coin….

I have tried it with the smallest magnet I have and my feeling is that the central part is also magnetic, but as Ole says, it is difficult to be 100% sure.

Brass plated steel, part of a 3 coin set issued in 2006, with 50 Kobo and 2 Naira.
The coins became worthless quickly and Nigeria moved to banknotes only with the 5 Naira note being worth a few cents.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
