Hi all!
I’m an active collector of eurocoins, and in particular I am attempting to achieve a complete collection of circulated eurocoins. There is no specific reason for this, I just think that circulated money is cool.
While I have made tremendous progress over the past 2 years, I still have a long way to go. My biggest issue at the moment is turning out to be finding all the ‘not intended for circulation’ (NIFC/set/etc.) coins from circulation. It is possible though, over the last two years I’ve found various NIFC coins in circulation including some from the Vatican City and proof coins too.
I am willing to swap rather generously for circulated NIFC coins that I am missing from my collection, and you are able to view exactly which coins I have and don’t have on my website (https://euro.thomasvoss.com/euro, you can also check my Numista but I think my site has a nicer UI). Outside of NIFCs I also miss various circulation dates, and while I would swap far more fairly for those, I do still appreciate anyone who has any dates I miss who’d like to swap.
So what exactly constitutes ‘circulated’ coins? I define them as such:
- You obtained the coin in active circulation (received in your change, a customer paid you with it, etc.)
- Coins found in mixed, circulated rolls/bags from the bank
What doesn’t constitute a ‘circulated’ coin?:
- UNC coins obtained for face value or purchased from a (central/national) bank
- Coins you removed from a coin-set that were never used in a transaction
- Anything else that a normal person might consider ‘cheating’
