The Numista “Manage My Collection” table for the KM 5.X Belgium 5 centimes coins has three listings for the 1858 date; KM 5.1a for a bronze version; KM 5.2 for a copper version without the dot after the signature and with a cross on the crown, and a second KM 5.2 entry for a copper version without the dot after the signature and without a cross on the crown. The KM catalog, however, does not list any 1858 coins under KM 5.2, but does list 1858 dated coins under KM 5.1 and KM 5.3, both of which are missing from the Numista table. Finally, the mintage given in the KM catalog for the KM 5.1 1858 dated coin is 2,712,000, which is very close to the mintage given in the Numista table for the KM 5.2 entry without the dot after the signature and with the cross on the crown. How should these differences be reconciled?
Also, both Numista and KM give the weight of the copper version of this coin as 9.8 grams, but neither give the weight of the bronze version of this coin (catalog number KM 5.1a). I have an 1858 dated coin of this type that weighs 9.933 grams (I have access to a precision scale at work that is calibrated to 0.1 mg accuracy). It is circulated, so it weighed even more than the stated value when it was initially made. It has a dot after the signature and a cross on the crown, so it cannot be a KM 5.2 coin. Is it the bronze version of this coin, or is it one of the two copper versions of the coin (KM 5.1 or KM 5.3) that are missing from the Numista table? Do any of the Belgian catalogs give the weight of bronze version of this coin? Are there any other distinguishing features of the bronze version of this coin other than a weight difference from the copper version?
