Fake or real? [gelöst]

Hello Again, 

if anyone has seen one of these let me know. In dad’s collection bin,  found a 1959 bright gold toned penny with detailed steps. I believe it’s  likely not real. Yet, of course being sold for nice prices on Good old unreliable ebay. If I was to guess it would grade at a MS 65.

I have read that it is a science project for students and they were covered in a gold tone later. 

Does anyone have an option weather it could be real or not? I want to check in with people who might know this coin.

You got it all right. Real coin, plated with something by somebody post mint. Unfortunately, regardless of the grade it will forever be a damaged coin and not worth much.
