I just put this coin under a microscope… and I'm not sure if my mind is playing tricks on me… or if this could possibly be a Canadian 1936 Dot Cent.  I could really use some second opinions, so please let me know what you think! I've posted pictures, including an annotated one with an arrow pointing where I think I see the dot.

If this is actually a 1936 Dot cent… what do you think my next steps should be? Contact an auction house? Send to PCGS or NGC directly?

So you think you have the 4th one known? It's amazing, in the 88 years it's been floating around in circulation nobody noticed it until it landed in your hands.

I don't know. That's why I'm posting to this forum. I greatly value the expertise and helpfulness that I have found on this forum in the past.

I am aware that this is a huge long shot, but that's why I'm looking to get honest evaluations from the collective wisdom on this board. Thanks again for any help you can provide!

Is it raised or recessed? Take picture with oblique lighting.

It's definitely hard to get a good picture of it. It's very faint. The best I can tell is it looks raised around the edges, with maybe a bit of a dimple/indent in the center? I've attached a couple of other pictures.  The first is a close up with the microscope light. The second is with the microscope light off, using a flashlight pointed from the side at an angle.

What you're describing is what would happen if someone took a sharp punch and indented it. The center would be depressed and the material around it would be forced up. Like this:

No sorry, Indented and not a dot as our friend pointed out.  I manipulated some lighting on your photos for clarity but can see where you think you see the dot. Please compare to a certified:

Sorry you cant blow up the last photo but that mark is clearly an indentation from an impact and not a dot.

Thank you both for your help! Based on the pictures I was able to take… I think you're both probably right. A let-down… but not a huge surprise. That said… the next time I have a chance, I'll probably take it to a location that has a much better microscope and camera just to make sure!

Once again, I always appreciate the help provided on this forum! It is a great resource!
