How do I safely transport coins by plane over EU Borders?

I have a very large collection of old and priceless coins, and I fear something might go wrong if I try to transport them in hand luggage like them getting confiscated or me not being allowed to board because of them.

Does anyone have any experience transporting coins by plane like this? Thanks😀

I have done it often without even imagining it could be a problem. Up to now, the airport security never said anything, you're allowed to have some change in your pockets or in different wallets.

Nothing stopping you from refusing to board the plane, if security goon finds chapter in regulations which allows him to take your personal possessions. He can't take away your personal property. Security can only not allow you to board the plane with it. If airport security takes away your valuable property and tries to stuff you into the plane to make you go away, call the police and report robbery.

Some countries have laws that do not allow export of stuff older than specific date. You would still have an excuse of “I did not want to separate from my personal collection and did not know about that law or did not think that traveling is same thing as export.”

My experience is from the United States going to the Philippines so I don't know if the same applies to going to EU. TSA get worried seeing round objects in your luggage and they will open your luggage. Make sure to hand carry so they'll have to open in front of you. My experience is other than a little delay, they did not confiscate or even mention anything illegal going on. Note that I carried approximately 15 pounds (in weight) of international coins. Your main concern should be the weight of your hand carried luggage as the airline (Cathay Pacific) wanted to charge me $210.00 for overweight hand carried luggage. Lucky for me, my wife's hand carry wasn't that heavy and I was able to put some in hers and off we go. I hope this helps.

Thanks
