Royal Mint mintage figures

Today the Royal Mint published the mintage figures of 2023 dated coins. From what I have seen I anticipate most of them commanding high premiums because they aren't available elsewhere but circulation, due to the 2023 definitive sets featuring a privy mark.

As usual there were no 2 Pence and 2 Pound coins minted in 2023. They can only be found in the sets with the privy mark only

The 2023 Salmon 50p has an incredible low mintage of just 200,000! dethroning the 2009 Kew Gardens as the lowest minted 50p in circulation (2nd if you include the 1992-93 EEC of just 109,000).

The 20p had only 525,000 minted last year which has made it the lowest minted 20p beating out the 2008 Gardner 20p with 11.9 million in 2008.

The Penny and 10p are tied at 600,000 minted which means both have the lowest mintage for each definitive (Excluding the alphabet 10ps)

At least the 5p and Pound coin have a respectable mintage of 32.4 million and 10.03 million between them so they would be quite easily findable once they are released into circulation.

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

I was hoping to get them in my change, but looking at those figures for the 50p and the sudden price hikes on ebay, means it might be missing from my collection 😕

Did a Google and there were articles in August saying how people were getting up to £35 for the salmon 50p…looks like a bargain now!

Does anyone know for sure if the figure of 200,000 for the 50p total coins including proof/BUNC, or just those for circulation ? My guess is it is just circulating coins, as the RM site states 0 2p and 0  £2, but they do exist in proof/BUNC sets. If my guess is correct, where can we find the figures for proof and BUNC coins?

Looking at that site, it shows over 200,000 proof and BUNC Kew 50p, if you count all sets sold, so there could be 400,000+ Kews out there. Is a circulated one more desirable than a proof? Might be the same with the Salmons.. I have several proof 2023 sets, mainly due to the birth of my first grandchild that year.

For 2023 only the coins within the BUNC and proof sets feature a privy mark on the obverse whilst the circulation issues do not. However because the 2p and £2 coin were not minted for circulation in 2023  no examples without the privy mark exist.

I know they were not intended for circulation, there have been many examples of this. My query is whether a proof or BUNC Salmon coin will be of a similar value to a circulated one, as I'm sure BUNC and proof Kews were minted in similar numbers to circulation ones according to the mintage figures in one of the links, and there doesn't seem to be much difference in price, you just have to look on ebay etc to see the price 2009 year sets go for.

I assume the coins in the sets (with privy marks) would have a lower selling price than the circulation version Salmon 50p, though maybe the price would increase slightly because that’s the only way you can acquire the 2p and £2 coins.

On the other hand unlike the 2009 sets the 2023 set was the first featuring the new coinage so many people would have bought it including many non coin collectors so they would have a higher than average mintage, they are still available to buy from the Royal mint till the end of the month.

I also predict the 2023 10p with 600k minted might increase the prices of the alphabet 10ps.

Dans Dollars predicts that the coins might be worth £10-£20 each easily except the 5p, 50p and £1 coin. To me the circulation salmon 50p would make the Kew Gardens decrease in value (to take its place) to the point where it might be similarly priced to the 1992-93 EEC 50p.
