Buying NGC slabbed coins

Hello, I have got a plan to buy a certified NGC coin. However, I need to ask some questions connected to this topic:

1) Is NGC slab completely proof agains air condition, moisture etc.? Can I store in “inappropriate” enviroment (to save space for non-certified coins)?

2) Are NGC slabs made for small or medium shaking? Asking because of a transport. :-)

Thank you very much!

Here your go. Read this and you will be the expert on NGC holders.

I don’t have any slabbed coins in my collection, the few I have bought have been liberated from the slab. I view coin collecting as a very tactile hobby which allows you to connect with the past, and by entombing the coin in a plastic coffin takes away that pleasure albeit I handle my coins with cotton gloves, as for grading part of the educational aspect of coin collecting is learning how to grade your coins. Companies like NGC are making money off the backs of coin collectors and are continually looking for ways to screw more and more money out of us, the latest gimmick the glow in the dark slab is just pathetic in my opinion.

(1)  The answer is “No”.  Their slabs are not hermetically sealed.  From NGC's website:

  • Is the NGC holder airtight or watertight?

"The NGC holder is sealed using ultrasonic welding — a safe, clean and secure process — that helps to protect the coins and reveal attempts at tampering. This process is not designed to create an airtight or watertight seal."

(2)  I do have both older and newer NGC slabs.  I've never had any problems with the coins coming loose within the NGC slabs themselves.   If in doubt, it may be a good idea to place it within a protected case while traveling.

In a hot enviroment the slab will maybe melt and by doing so damage the coin…😁
