I only casually collect ancient coins as most of them are out of my reach (too expensive). But I've managed to very nearly link the two corners of the “Known World” apart from this region right in the middle where Iran is now.
I'm a little surprised to be honest. You'd think the region of Persia would have had coins. I'm sure there are, but I'm not sure where to look on Numista.
This isn't an urgent thing at all, but if anyone has any answers that would be great. 🙂

No problem, good luck! Shouldn't be hard to find an affordable coin to complete it. 😃

You want to find coins on Persia here? then you will find them under the correct name which is Iran, Persia is the name the west gave it but you won't find any of their coins with Persia written on

But in ancient times it was called the Persian Empire/Persia which encompassed most of modern Iran. Which is what I meant. But yeah, I'd certainly like some medieval Iranian coins too!

So Alexander the Great fought the Iranian empire, Persia was the ancient name of the area we now know as iran.
My error in that I thought he meant more modern times 16-19th centuries, I have hand struck coins bearing the mint name as Iran, as far as I am aware non bear the mint as Persia. All the coins on Numista between these dates are listed under Iran.
Interesting fact: Throughout history Iranians have never called themselves Persian!
It's relatively irrelevant what people call or have called themselves. What is important is that you can communicate with others and having the same or similar idea what is talked about.
We have countless things that are not called the same by in-groups and outsiders … they are called endonyms and exonyms. As well as random names slapped on something after the fact that are now in common tongue. Like the Byzantine Empire, it never was called that but many people know about it under that name.

All good!
And yeah, I wouldn't use the term Persian to refer to Iranians. It's a bit silly to do that, and incorrect.
It's more referring to ancient people or empires that don't exist anymore like the Assyrians, Byzantines, Saxons or the various Celtic tribes.
