What's the crack with 1/12 of a shilling and 1/13 of a shilling ? 1/24-1/26, 1/48 and 1/52 coins ? I don't get why there are so many different values. :S

Also why are the 1/52 & 48 much more pricey even in lower grades ?

It's the influence of the French.
Also lower denominations tend to have lower mintages, as with our fractional farthings.

The 1/13 shilling and similar were used to lower the value of the local pennies etc during hard financial times.

I thought you might have known Phil ! The 52, and 48's are so expensive yet all of the others for all kings and queens are so cheap to pick up I think I will be concentrating on Jersey as it's actually pretty cool, even George V has 2 varieties !

You're confusing me ! Lol I fail to see what the French influence there was on the reasoning in having a 1/12-1/13 and a 1/24-1/26 and a 1/48-1/52 :S haha
