Euro '96 £2 is it spendable ?

My brother got it in his change at a supermarket about 6 months ago, and he's just got round to giving it to me.. My question is.. Is it legal tender ?

I don't know about that, but it would be exchangable at banks, post offices etc. Why?

Hi Mark, they are definitely legal tender, but very rare that you will get them in your change. Christmas & school holidays are the best time for scarcer coins to turn up in change, when people are emptying their money boxes.

I quite like how concave it is ! Although the info was wrong on here - it said it was commemorating the 10th Euro championships 2000 but it was Euro '96 lol

I'm sure I've got a spare one in BUNC in sealed packaging from the Royal Mint.
