Hello. What do you see that makes you think there is something wrong with the date and how that could happen in the coin minting process?

Of course, was there any doubt?

I see a 0 over a 5 , or 5 over 0.  I don't see the 6 at all. It looks nothing like this 1996 to me.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate all you fellas input. I'm new to this big time.

The master die that all the dies were made off of had only one font for the 1996 coins. Any difference in the 6’s are due to wear.  There were no over dates for that coin.

I see none of that, I see clearly “1996”.

Why bother asking questions if you're not going to accept any answer other than your own?

It looks like the shape of the 6 on the one coin has a less than circular center (oval?). The center of the 6 on DLE413's coin looks like a perfect circle.

It looks completely normal. It is just a 1996 nickel.

I see your point. It isn't an error, it is how the 6 is written. I thought the exact same thing but then I realized that this is indeed a 6. The minting font was just like that, I guess.

P.S I totally get you but even though this forum is to ask questions, respectfully please don't be mad. May your father's soul rest in peace in heaven.

Compare:

I see no real difference other than maybe some flattening of the digits due to wear.

Some wear and some difference in lighting.  Compare the exact same coin taken at different times with somewhat different lighting.

Yes, the one on the left looks a little weird but the one on the right looks very normal.  Is it surprising that different people see it differently?

The wear/damage has happened in such a specific manner to give this illusion. Nice!
