Seeking advice on selling off a small collection of coins

Hello,

Following the death of a family member, we discovered that he had a coin collection that was probably started about 15-20 years ago. There are around 80 items in total (collections and individual coins). The items are mainly country-specific Euro coins and commemorative coins/medals for various events, plus a few old coins. After a quick check on here and other sites, the individual estimations appear to vary from 50cts to maybe 200€ per item. As I don't know anything about coin collecting, I was wondering if it would be worth trying to sell the collection off a single lot (or maybe 3 lots if organised by theme) on a site like Ebay. Would that work, or would I have to sell them all individually? I don't really want to spend too much time on this. Any tips appreciated.

Thanks

David.

PS: I'm based in the Paris area in France.

Welcome to numista.

Enter the coins in the Numista database, which will then make you identify the individual coins and give you a rough idea about their worth.

80 coins are not a lot to enter, in a couple of days it should be done.

Hi David, I could give you some advice about selling on eBay or trying to get them sold to a coin dealer etc, however it’s just an opinion of mine, and you may not agree.

Or you could send me a pm with some photos and I could tell you the best and quickest way to deal with the collection.

Hi Gradavi,

I am sorry to hear of the demise of one of your family members.

Is it for financial reasons that you want to get rid of these coins? If not, why not keep it for the time being and perhaps find someone in the family who might later want to collect them. There is no age limit for anyone to take up this hobby. I have seen people who were over 60+ picking up this hobby. If you have any children, they may want to take up this wonderful hobby one days, and with 80+ coins to start with is an encouraging beginning. I always ask the question, what would I like to do with my collection when I am no longer here, and my answer is to keep it as long as you can. 80 coins or so, is not a lot to store. Feel free to post your coins here for an opinion, as there are many experts here that can help.

Good luck.

Many thanks for the replies. The coins aren't mine, I'm helping out an older family member who doesn't wish to keep them. I'll look into entering the coins into Numista to see if it's worth it.

Sorry to hear about the death in the family.

In regards to the coins, you could also add a bulk photo (or a few) and I'm sure a few sharp eyed people here will identify any potential valuable or interesting ones.

Something quick like this would likely do:

The better/sharper the image, the better of course.
