Looking for some info on Barber coins

I mainly collect foreign coins (non american, I say foreign because I live in america) but I am putting together a 7070 type set. I am currently looking to upgrade my barber coins (dime, quarter, half dollar) to xf-au condition. I know barbers in that condition can become quite scarce and expensive, so I'm looking for some info on what I should expect to fairly pay for each one of those coins. I'm looking at common dates. I was at a coin show the other day looking at some barbers on xf to au condition but the prices seemed a little too high, but i realized I don't know anything about fair market values on barber coins. Any info would be a huge help. Thanks!

hello,

Barber coins are indeed an area of keen interest.

You can start with the NGC price guides.

These prices reflect sales of certified examples, so let us say the top end of what you should expect to pay.

edit to add: coin shows in my opinion are the best chance of a getting a good deal.

American dollars

Common date Barber 10c in EF, 25 or so

Quarter, 40 to 80

Half, at least 125 or so.

Truly AU Barber halves are very pricely and likely to be slabbed. They are quite scarce too. So many Barber coins are VG or worse as they saw heavy use.

I have noticed VG and lower Barber coins are very cheap and then there is a leap up in price to Fine and a doubling and some to VF and ditto to EF, so an EF coin on average is 5x cost of a fine one.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
