Hi Folks

apologies if this question has already been asked. I'm trying to date a Imperial Russia 5 Ruble note. Having the same issue with 3, 10 and 25 notes. The signatures are Shipov and Metz (IPS,YFM). The serial number is ИБ 656957. My question is how do I know if I have the 1909 (1914-1917) P#10b. (1) version or the 1909 (1917) P#10b. (2) version? When I look at colnect.com, is says the 1917 issue has the serial: ОП-ТУ and the 1914-1917 issue has the prefix: ЗЯ-ОО. Is it the case that if I knew the Russian alphabet, it would be obvious where ИБ comes or is there some other way of working this out?

Thanks to anyone who gets back with a reply.

Yours was definitely issued by the Russian Empire. The serial prefix ranges definitely need to be updated to be more accurate.

Here is the grid of prefixes for Shipov and Metz, only for the 5 Roubles:

As you can see, ИБ falls under the first section, which is the Russian Empire.

Thanks for that reply, so does that mean it is the earlier date of 1909 (1914-1917)?

Yes, that one.

Hi Voided_Username01 did you get that table from a website or is it a scan from a book? If it is from a website, can you tell me one? Thanks

This is from a book. It is titled Бумажные деньги России 1898-1934 by B. P. Pirozhkov. I purchased a copy of the PDF of the book from https://unc.ua/uk/auction/bumazhnye-dengi-rossii-1898-1934-godov-pirozhkov-b-p-pdf-1507765 for ₴15.

By the way, Boris Pirozhkov recently updated his book and made it freely available on www.bonistika.net.

Thank you both, I'll look into those ebooks. Thanks again.
