Issue with Coin: Only Central Area Affected

Hello, I have a coin and I’m wondering if anyone has any information or ideas about what happened to it. The issue seems to be that only the central part of the coin is affected, while the rest of the coin is unaffected. Does anyone know why this happened or what could have caused it?

Left in an environment corrosive to aluminum bronze but not nickel like vinegar.
