I have a 2008 loonie that is very strongly magnetic, which leads me to believe that it has a steel core rather than a nickel core.

Please revisit your high school chemistry/physics lesson transcripts on elements or magnetism 😉 you will find the answer there.

Alright, that was unnecessarily condescending. I brought it up because I was under the impression that nickel was nowhere near as magnetic as steel, and this coin damn near shot across the room to my magnet. But I guess I'm just dumb, apparently. Thanks man

Condescension lies in the eye of the beholder, especially in text form but suit yourself taking everything for the worst.

I just saw no reason to answer directly to a simple question hinting that it is easily found out by a little bit of google-fu and a minute of ones own time.

Just some constructive criticism, that's all. There's no need to get upset, or snarky. I just know that if I were you, I wouldn't want to be coming off the way you did unless I wanted to potentially drive away some people who may be new to the hobby, the site, or metals as a whole.

Taken! My texting style might be rough but it also seems that from the many dozens of cultures that have countered it the whiniest responses always come from the same region *shrug*. *moderators take me away*

I don't think I was being whiny. Again, it was just a bit of constructive criticism. I brought something up, and you essentially implied that I should have been taught this as a teenager and retained it in my adult years, and I feel like that was a touch condescending and unnecessary. I suppose you're saying that, as a North American, I'm thin-skinned? Again, you're mistaking constructive criticism for personal offence, and this whole situation just isn't a great look for you. That's all.
