I recently aquired a 1999 Brown georgia quarter its rim is taller than the normal rim and its off center.  Is this quarter rare?

Always show pictures, otherwise it's very difficult to have an opinion.

You don't have the quarter you're referring to. You have this one:  N#607

Coating? That's not possible.  It's not a plated coin but a clad coin.  This is what the inside looks like. If the clad came off that face would be blank.

what about the raised rim and the offset stamp the coin weighs 5.79 grams

Can't say anything useful without pictures.

They say "Pecunia non olet", but I know better...

yes I know they are cladded coins I was thinking that it could be the same thing that I have seen happen many times with cupro nickel coins that have appeared to be made of just copper. I have seen this with uk coins that have been in water for some time. Could the same happen with nickel clad coins ???

Not sure about nickel clad coins but these are Cu-Ni clad on copper so probably yes.

i hate to sound ignorant here but whats the verdict on my coin?  whats it made from

and does it have any value for being offset and the rim being higher than normal should i have it graded

Hi Melody.  I don't think the pictures are clear enough for us to see what you are referring to.  Have you thought about taking it to an LCS (Local Coin Shop) and asking them for their opinion?  I'm pretty sure there aren't any Coin Shops located in Port Allen.  But in Baton Rouge you shouldn't have any problems finding one.

yes i did and they didnt deal in error coins Im not sure where I can take it  he said it was

an error coin but that was all he could tell me

Melody Ann Elkins

Sorry to hear that.  I believe there are a few shops on South Sherwood Forest Blvd in Baton Rouge.

Alternately, if you could take some more pictures of the front and back of the coin that are a little clearer (and taken head on) and post them here, someone may be able to help.

looks like its been covered in some antique finish from the pictures or something, should take some better pictures it's very difficult to see

Post mint damage - value 23 cents

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
