I recently got this West Friesland - 1739 duit that has 2.68 grams

Can it be legit ?

According to Numista weight should be around 1.6 grams so it's way off.

Also found  an entry on NGC for 1739 year that does not specify the weigh.  Did not find it here on Numista.

Also the silver duit on NGC mentions weight variation from 2 to 5 grams so could the copper coin have similar variation ?

KM# A100

N#38851

KM# A101a (not on numista ?)

Thank you.

My coin:

Krauze tells that KM A100 is 3.84 gram and mint state graded coins do weight 3.84 or HA just copied weight info from Krauze. Online stores have coin at 3.44 grams for sale.

NGC made a typo as A101A does not exist in Krauze. 101 is assigned to 2 stuivers. I suspect you won't find Pieter Verkade book from 1972 in Romanian library. The only source for 1.6 gram on 1739 duit page can be in that book or somebody just weighted their worn off coin.

Other reference book could be https://en.numista.com/literature/volume.php?id=132 as coin is also classified as CNM 2.46.95 or CNM 2.46.96 by sellers

Thx for the answer.

For me, my coin looks genuine but if someone had a similar one at 1.6 grams, mine is at 2.6 grams and there are genuine ones at 3.44-3.84 grams….it feels like i could never tell for sure if mine is legit or not. If weight is not largely variable from the start, even with the degree of wear mine is in…it's 1 gram short from the graded coins and it feels like too much.

Would appreciate any info on weight variation on this coin or at least on the silver one. I guess if that info (found on NGC) of weight from 2 to 5 grams on the silver coin is correct, similar variation could be on copper ones.

2-5 gram variation on silver is listed in Krauze.

Or just search for 1739 duit.

I've found a lot of 1739 copper Duit coins but unfortunately not a single one with an indication of the weight: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?term=West+Friesland+duit+1739&category=1-2&lot=&date_from=&date_to=&thesaurus=1&images=1&en=1&de=1&fr=1&it=1&es=1&ot=1&currency=usd&order=0
