I have a 1911 medal. On one side it shows a picture of Walney Bridge and states Walney Bridge Barrow in Furness T.F. Butler Mayor. On the reverse is an image of George V and Mary. Does anyone have an idea why this medal was struck and who it was aimed at?

Could be a coronation medal

Yes, that is the medal. I assumed it was a coronation medal but issued just for Barrow residents? Would perhaps each schoolchild be issued with one?

It's pure speculation on my part but I don't think these are just handed out to children. I think that the recipients were most likely the top of the local elite. Government officials, police officers, heads of schools, hospitals and other institutions, local industrialists, parish priests, station masters, post masters, etc. These kind of people.

I don't think  any of my ancestor  would fit this esteemed  mob!
