Amundsen bought skis and sledges by L.H.Hagen in Kristiania (OSLO) where my grand father worked as a ski maker. I got my medal from grandpa and were told that the medal was a gift from Amundsen him self because grandpa made the skis and sledges for the expedition.
In Norway at that time a 17th of may medal was produced and sold for many years, made by the engraver Ivar Trondsen, also engraving norwegian coins. The Amundsen Polheim medal is made by Trondsen and has many similarities to the Polheim medal. The problem is that I can not find any confirmation about the Polheim medal. I do not find any thing written or documented about the The Polheim medal. Can anyone help me out to document my storry? Or to document the origin and purpose of the medal?
