Hello everyone,

I'm trying to buy an item off eBay that ships from Estonia, and I'm worried it would get lost in mail...

Is Estonian Post reliable? Anyone had problems with it yet?

No, it's not very reliable, just like much of Eastern Europe.

However, if you are buying from eBay your purchase price is covered by their buyer protection. You have 30 days I think to file a complaint but they will 100% refund your money. It's up to the seller to ensure delivery.

I've bought a few coins from the Baltic States and they have all arrived safely.

Just a note of caution. Be wary of sellers trying to stall for enough time to let the deadline to file a complaint lapse. Once that happens you are SOL.  If you don't have the coins, file a complaint no matter what the buyer says, you can always withdraw it if they arrive.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Well I bought I few items on Ebay, and even swapped with some Estonian collectors here, and everything worked fine, all experiences by registered mail. And I don't know in your case, but on Ebay they charge just 3 or 4 $ for registered mail, compared to 18$ from US, or 9 EUR from Netherlands and so.

I think it's more of a problem sending rather than receiving, and as Phil has mention you have a buyer's guarantee up to 30 days.
Some of my first ever swaps were with a friend in Talinn.....I never had any troubles with Estonian post sending and receiving, by regular mail too. I have sent to Talinn and Viljandi...I would not worry if I was you
Hello everyone,

Thanks a lot for the info and advice... just bought the coin, it's a Greenland 1 kr 1960!

I'm Estonian and I can tell you firsthand not to worry; Estonia is not actually the sketchy, old, post-Soviet relic-type country some may think.

Since I have family there, countless gifts have been shipped back and forth, never with a problem and barely ever by registered mail.

I'm jealous about the Greenland coin though.

Aha, thanks Eminem,

Look around ebay, cheap ones should come up (30 bucks is... relatively cheap for this one) the 1964 is more expensive (NGC)

Meh I won't bother with ebay, I find the prices far too competitive. I can get great discounts at coin shows if I try hard enough.

But Greenland is certainly on my list.

Wow... Eesti Post's website is really nice! Multi-language services including English, the tracking is really detailed... very well formatted too, you can find anything really fast.

Estonians do postal services better than Austrians... at least you can find tracking on the same domain.
