And the lion  manes are different. The picture in this thread isn't good enough to let me compare the manes.

The 2011 coin (Plating: https://en.ucoin.net/coin/malawi-50-kwacha-2010-2011/?tid=145372) and my 2010 coin are very different from each other. The coats of arms are different, the lions are different, the inscriptions are different. There are also many differences on the reverse side: grass under the hooves, round emblem to the left of the animal.

It's always difficult to compare coins with a different date. Even when they have the same reference number minor differences can occur on coins with another date.

Schön has an interesting remark about this type:

“Nr. 206 wurde von kommerzieller Seite eingefärbt und verchromt so dass auf dem Markt Varianten auftauchen.”

“No. 206 (the reference number of this type in Schön) was commercially colored and chrome-plated so that variants appear on the market.”

With “commercially” it's not clear to me whether the Mint struck these variants (which makes them legal tender) or some third parties made the alterings (which makes them in fact PMD). My latest Schön edition is from 2016, maybe in newer ones there is more explanation or even the variants are included there?

Too bad Ucoin doesn't have a picture of the 2010 gold plated one.  Here are the differences I found between the OP's coin and KM215 (beside the gold plate):

At this point I'm not sure it matters as the OP has already added their coin to the Numista page as an Example of the type.

Schön# 206 is the 2011 version. The 2017 catalog has the same note. (KM# 243 is probably the 2011 version, but there's no image.)

KM# 214 and Schön# 188 are for the 2010 version. No note there in the Schön 2017 catalog.

I just noted that for the ucoin links I provided the non-plated link is for 2010 and the plated link is for 2010-2011. (I'm not going to check for a non-plated coin in 2011 in ucoin.)
