Tonga is one of my favorite countries. Since many years I was searching for the difference between the small and large lettering. Compared many coins but never saw a difference till recently (with thanks to freeze_coins) and then the difference is very clear. So all the coins I ever saw were with large lettering which means the small lettering is much scarcer. And here it is:

The large lettering, although the letters are nearer to each other, comprises 54 (large) beads, the small lettering comprises 51 (small) beads.

I suppose the question is about this coin? N#55247

I didn't count the beads, since the differences are very clear, but I would suggest you substitute your documentation with this, since strange enough obverse and reverse are strangely inverted? Just use this graphic.

Take care Ole

By the way, they both have the same amount of beads:

By the way, they both have the same amount of beads:

- I didn't say there was a difference in total amount of beads, I've said there's a different amount of beads comprising the lettering.

- And your documentation isn't correct. First of all the pictures are obverse pictures, not reverse pictures. Secondly, the left coin has the large lettering, the right coin has the small lettering. Your frames above the pictures say just the opposite.

No, you didn't say that, since you were counting beads for the length of “KINGDOM OF TONGA”, and yes, you're right about my counting proof, which was just for myself, of course it's the obverses, but that documentation is not going to be used at all.

I still find it hilarious, that the reverses are the "opposites" of the obverses, when you observe the style of the texts?
