I'm entering this to call attention to the fact that there seems to be an increasing number of fake coins on the market. To an experienced collector, this one is laughable.

But yet, someone spent hours milling out a wheat penny to receive the dime.

Who would be fooled by this? Unfortunately, many new collectors who simply don'tknow the difference.

I see the Numista forum as primarily educational, and indeed, if one wants to find information, it can be found here.

I view this piece as an apprentice machinist project. A gimcrack that is not meant to deceive but to amuse.

Too bad the artist didn't use a silver dime from the 40s or 50s.

I have to admit I never thought of that, and it makes sense.

Oh, I think it's made to deceive. But not to make money, just for entertainment, so you're partly right. I have a strong feeling this is a coin magicians use.

I had a double headed penny once and used it to great advantage. Until someone caught me at it and I had to relinquish it.

Maybe it's a pattern for a new bi-metallic dime that will keep all those penny collectors from being disappointed by its discontinuation 😉 .
