Question about Croatian year sets

Dear Collectors!

According to Numista, Croatian circulating coins (kuna) have been issued in Proof quality every year.

Example: N#4815

I thought, those yearlines refer to coins from mint sets, that Croatia issued every year. However, according to Croatian National Bank coins in mint sets are issued in BU quality.

Is it a mistake in the catalog, or those yearlines refer to some other set issues?

Thank you for your answers!

The designation in Numista as Proof is taken directly from SCWC so they would be government issued. Probably should be changed to BU.

Hi, I agree with @rsirian1 and I think those year lines should be changed from "Proof" to "BU set", since the mintage even matches the one indicated in the table in the link the OP posted.

Okay, I will change the yearlines then

Hello,

There was only one official set issued per year. The problem with these sets is that every catalog in the world treats those sets as proof quality coins, while the Croatian National Bank states BU quality. And when the coins are examined, it seems that the coins really are in proof quality. Therefore, those sets still stand as proof sets in Numista catalog.

Check my doubles ;)

It's not always easy. Look here: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic163633.html

If it was not written on the set they're not, I would also say these are proof coins.

I think that information from primary source (Bank of Croatia) is more important than the information from secondary sources.

And as Essor Prof has noted, nowadays, due to advanced minting techniques, many countries issue BU coins (and sometimes even coins for circulation) that look like proof coins. Switzerland is a prominent example, but some other coutries also do it. I still think we should change the yearlines to BU.

Also, I believe, at least in some years baby sets were also issued. At least I saw a 2002 set previously. Is there any information about those?
