Hello collector friends and manufacturers,

I noticed that the reverse (design) of the coin predicts the Brazilian titles for 2002. However, the year of minting is 2001 on the obverse (value side).
Is there a reason for this?
I recently purchased this coin on eBay. So how is it possible that the titles were predicted for 2002?
Why wasn't the actual year of minting stated? There's no reason to hide it.
My personal opinion: Either the correct year is stated or it's simply omitted.

It would be nice if all “issue dates” on coins were the actual date of issue or minting. That usually happens, but sometimes other issues get in the way. (See the U.S. Bicentennial coins dated 1976 where manufacture started 1975 for an example.)

I suspect something like this happened: Someone got permission to produce Commemorative issues for Cook Islands dated 2001. When the world cup finished they realized the coin would sell well and the contract allowed them to mint coins after the end of 2001.

And they already had the obverse die created.

Numista guidelines has two ways to handle this:

Note that the year written on the coin may represent the year of minting, the year of issue, or a different date altogether. If the year of minting is different from the year written on the coin, record the minting year in the Gregorian or Julian calendar using the “Change date” override feature.

Or use the Issue date option

Hello, thanks for the feedback.
So, can a dealer who has a coin minting contract, in this case the Cook Islands 2001, mint an unlimited number of coins? I don't think so. There must be a limit.

@rsirian1

I'd like to change the minting date, but where do I get information about the coin's manufacturer and when it was actually minted?

That was my original question.

Best regards Norbert

Why must there be a limit? It depends on the contract (and many contracts are flawed), and also on how willing the Cook Islands government is to overlook issues or how much they appreciate the income generated.

I don't know for sure.  I assumed it must be 2002 per your argument but I suppose it could have been later. You should ask the referee.

Who is the referee?
