When I was collecting these types (over 50 years ago), Belize had not yet been born, so mine were labeled British Honduras, and stored in a box labeled “British Colonies” where it sat between Bahamas and Ceylon until I sold them 10 years ago.
Put it where you will best remember how to find it. If you think of it as a British Honduras coin, then maybe it should go under Br (regardless of how Numista is organized 🙂)
I tend to store under the country name given at the time, and represented on the coin - because that was the name of the country at the time. I then store them in the same place as the coins from the currently named country, so under British Honduras stored with any under Belize.
There are plenty of examples of name changes to contend with throughout history, but the geographical location doesn’t change, Ceylon - Sri Lanka, Russian Empire - USSR - Russian Federation, etc etc
„If your reply or post in the Forum stinks of AI, I will call you out! Knowledge comes from experience, the I in AI stands for incompetence.“
I organize my coins chronologically and geographically, under the current name of the territory, so British Honduras goes under (rather: precedes) Belize.
When a named geographical region ceases to exist by merging into another one, I have it as an ‘annex’ to the current country it is part of, so Newfoundland is an annex to Canada, G.D.R. is an annex to Federal Germany.
When a named geographical region ceases to exist by falling apart into two or more new countries, I let the capital city of the old geographical region decide. So Yugoslavia goes under (precedes) Serbia and USSR under Federal Russia, while I'm of course well aware that doesn't do justice to the other new regions.
In my albums, this organisation usually works out pretty well. See for instance this album page which starts with pre-WW2 Czechoslovakia, which was separated into two puppet states during the war (Bohemia and Moravia and 'independent' Slovakia) and then resumes as Czechoslovakia after WW2.
