New 200 rial note from Yemen counterfeit or legit?

The Houthi lead government based in Sana'a has created new 200 Rial notes, which are recognized as illegal and illegitimate by the internationally recognized government, however, unlike the 5000s, I don't see any mention of them being used for money laundering, my primary question is do we consider this note counterfeit, local, or standard issue?

Since no one has provided their take on this question this is mine.

I personally wouldn't count this as a counterfeit as its not trying to reproduce or copy an existing note. The design is completely unique, and it does not appear to be trying to fool people. I think this is just the Houthi governments way of attempting to appear legitimate on the world stage.

I would consider this note as a standard issue. I think of this situation the same as I think of China vs Taiwan. Country divided between 2 competing governments as a result of a war, both claiming the latter's territory, and both having various degrees or international recognition. Notes from both are treated as standard in the catalog (albeit Taiwan being classified as a state with limited recognition). So I would think the same treatment applies here.

That is my take on your question if my lack of expertise means anything. I am just happy I was able to get my hands on one of the Houthi notes

I agree with @ajbbaherbados, as the Houthi group is occupying a large part of Yemen, and as this 200 rials is legal tender under their control, and as a collector, I have no problem in accepting this as a legit banknote. This is a cheap note and get them before it's too late.😁. I just got one for my collection.

As for comparing China Yuan and Taiwan dollar, the story is a bit different here as I believe both currencies are recognised and can be converted into Yuan/Dollar.

thank you both for the input! I have to say I agree with your takes

I just noticed a unique feature on this note. If you hold the note up against the light. Between the mosque and the watermark area, there is a feature created like with a pin (pin holes) with the Arabic numeral of ٢٠٠ (200). The note is not damaged, it's just a feature like they were embedded into the note. These tiny dots are transparent. I wonder what you call this feature?

Thanks.

Probably closest is “perforated” (already available in printing techniques)

Just call me Bram

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

In my humble opinion, the Republic of Yemen should be understood as having two sections: one governed from Sana’a and one governed from Aden. Both are rival governments claiming to be the legitimate authority of the Republic of Yemen.

In the past, Yemen was split into two separate recognized political entities: North Yemen and South Yemen. These were considered different countries.

North Yemen had previously been a kingdom before a bloody civil war between the royalists (supported by Saudi Arabia) and the Arab republicans (supported by Egypt). Both the former kingdom and the later northern republic Each side has its own issuing authority Section on numista.

Today, the two current rival authorities can similarly be categorized as different authority sections, because each represents a fundamentally different vision of what the Yemeni state should be and are de facto an different goverment.
