1987 Jefferson Nickel Queries [gelöst]

Recently I came across a 1987 Jefferson nickel. When I looked a bit closer at this nickel, I noticed that it looked thicker than normal. I saw that on Numista, the thickness of the coin is listed as 1.75mm, whereas this is 1.97mm. I do not have any precise scales so unfortunately cannot provide a figure for weight. I don’t know much about U.S coins and especially about U.S coin errors, but I am wondering whether the obverse may be slightly misaligned. Any information will be much appreciated.

The thickness on the Numista page is incorrect. Must have been measured on a worn nickel.  Your measurement is close to the actual thickness 1.95 mm.

Ok, that’s interesting to know. Thank you for the informatio.

Check the coin page now. It's been fixed. Thanks for catching it.

As far as being off centered, it may by slightly off from perfect but that's expected and not unusual when making ½ billion coins at a striking rate of 12 coins per second.  It would have to be significantly off center to be considered a mint error.
