I wouldn't want to help you damage the coin more – it has suffered enough.

Probably just struck on a damaged planchet (the reason why the details are still present).

Thanks! I was worried I bought a dinked-up fourree for the price of a solid silver denarius.

Hm, have not thought about cladding but this is nothing we could discern from a picture let alone one with suboptimal quality.

It doesn't appear to be fouree. No sign of bronze in the cracks on the edge or in the pitting on his face, and on my metal detector it reads a 51, same as my other denarius of Faustina II which I know is not fouree.
