Hello, I was wondering if any of you experts could help me with this coin? My mother found it in amongst some old florins in a metal box, it was probably found by my grandfather eyes only. I know what the coin is but cannot get any information whether it's real or not as I know there are a lot of fakes around, is it a particularly rare coin if real? I have used lightroom just on auto enhancement. Many thanks in advance. Sadly the coin has a split but is in good condition otherwise. Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to Numista!

If it is a replica it is executed very well.  To my eyes, the details look faithful to authentic examples that can be found online:

But I think you would need to take it to a specialist to be certain, or maybe some of our UK based members know of replicas of this type.

Spink, CNG and Baldwin's are all in London.

Thank you for your help, I don't think it's a replica because it's been sat for so long and I think it has been found. Is it a reasonably rare coin?

“Rarity” is a subjective term.

I was able to find 4 examples in the last 10 years on the auction research platform acsearch.  This makes it rather rare in my opinion.

(here is one I missed in my previous post:  https://www.numisbids.com/sale/9257/lot/?lot=3076).

What do you mean by “it's been sat for so long?”  If the coin has sat in a box for 50 years it could still be a replica.

Yes it could indeed be a replica,Hopefully it isn't. Thanks so much for your help, I'm very grateful. I'm hoping it will earn some money for my mum. I don't live far from where the coin would have been minted.

Is it attracted to a magnet? Just curious.

No it's not, just checked.

Looks good. Go to a top end dealer listed in this thread near you or in London. Sell it in an auction!
