I'm not sure if I've made a mistake with my identification of this coin…

There appears to be a letter ‘b’ behind the date (1853b)?

Are those I's or X's.  Looks like 1880b to me.

It's a v not a b so 1885

P.S. when talking about specific objects always include a link to the catalog page

Ah, of course.

There is an example on the numista page too:

Thanks

In my opinion the most beautiful British coin of all time, and the only date run I have in my collection.

There were no mint marks on British florins. Mint marks are only found on bronze coinage, mostly pennies. Usually H for Heaton mint and 2 years with a KN for Kings Norton.

Gold sovereigns were minted around the Empire (Mostly Australia), but silver was un mintmaked between 1709 and up to the end. You get die numbers between 1863 and 1879, but these were for die testing as they upgraded machines in the 1860s and 1870s.

The date on the coin shown is 1885. The X's could look like I's to some I guess and the V has been ligatured at left to look like a B. Just artistic licence. All gothic florins were manufactured at the Tower Hill Mint.

Here is what an 1853 looks like.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
