I found this pin in the very back of my desk drawer, no clue where it came from.

Front of pin reads: Volksbildung ist volksbefreiung
A Google translate tells me this means Public Education is Public Liberation
There are 3 men depicted, 2 shaking hands, one of them is holding what looks to be a musket. The man in the background is holding the Swiss flag with one hand to his heart. Between their feet is a lyre and something round of hexagonal. Below is the Swiss coat of arms.
Back of pin reads: Schweizerisches Grutli-fe (and what appears to be half of an S before the hinge of the pin) Zofingen
The back depicts two hands shaking in front of the Swiss cross, below this is the coat of arms of Zofingen Switzerland and another coat of arms I cannot idntify (three wavy stripes on the left and three stars vertical on the right. This is surrounded by some sort of laurel, below which is the year 1896.

Would love any help identifying what the history of this is.
