Welcome. Post anywhere to a point. There are specific forums for specific things. This one. Coins - general information and questions. Another, Coins - Identification, evaluation, valuations, authentication, etc.  Banknotes are separate as well as  Exonumia (medals, medalions, tokens, etc.)  Try to choose the correct forum depending on what you have and what it pertains to. Otherwise if it is  in the wrong forum, it will be moved to the proper forum by the Numista gods. Have fun.

I'm losing it. Sorry, I'm getting old!  Thank you.  This forum is confusing to me. Wish there were more defined forums for specific coins rather then all mixed up together.

This forum is confusing to me. Wish there were more defined forums for specific coins rather then all mixed up together.  

There are hundreds of thousands of coin types, what would be confusing would be to have dedicated forums for each of them.
 

The forum is relatively clear in structure:

• 4 main divisions: 
  • coins, banknotes, exonumia, general
• the 3 super categories of collectibles have sub categories
  • technical, historical or plain informative things about the collectible type
  • identifying or evaluating them
  • swap proposals
  • catalog relevant discussions about them
• General:
  • discussions pertaining the Numista website
  • a free for all forum around most everything and anything and not necessarily about collecting
  • a relatively defunct forum for contest (not held for years)
  • administrative forae (a normal user can't see anyway)

If you want to talk about Lincoln head cents etc. and their myriad of microscopic variants you can open a new thread in the Coin information and questions forum or SEARCH for existing ones (there are probably many already existing). There are enough USAians on Numista that might want to engage in those topics.

So basically, if I want to look at and read posts only on American coins, I have to search through every one of these threads until I find American coins?

Click on the United States. You will be where you want to be.

Click on any U.S. coin that is of interest to you and towards the bottom of that coin page will be links to Numista's previous discussions, if any, related to topics on that page.

To search on forum, you may follow these steps:
Look on top right on any page

Where it shows “Search” you write “USA”, then VERY IMPORTANT, you click on drop down arrow besides to “Catalogue” and select “Forum”, 

Then click on magnifier glass on right.

This will direct you to “Search on the forum” page

There click on drop down arrow to right of “Section”, and select “Coin information and questions”

Click on Search, and you will have 401 topics, related to USA coins.

Now click on “Sort by” drop down arrow, and select “date”.

The topics will be ordered by date from newer on top to older on bottom. if you want to participate on them, newers are more active than those with several years from last reply. 

In case you don't find what you are looking for, and need replies, start a new thread, youalready know how to do it, as you started this one, but be sure to place in the correct section (“Coin information and questions”) so people interested on it may find and participate.
