Anyone ask: How many more coins does one estimate could be added to Numista?

I've been thinking about this particular question for a while, and my guesstimation is in the neighborhood of at least 150,000 or more could still  be added to the Numista catalog  that were issued -700BC to 2025AD. A fair number of these coins, perhaps about half in my mind would be issued before 500AD. Many of these would also be quite scarce to rare to possibly unique.

I am curious what others think about this question? I am sure I am not the only one here on Numista asking this intriguing question.

Really depends on what you consider a type (what should get an individual catalog page).

When I look at all the automatically added ancient coins and to a considerably lesser degree medieval coins, I see a whole bunch of the same coins with slightly different small features. There are sometimes other slight differences but at that time each die was practically unique.

Every year there are about 4000 new catalog entries for “coins” the vast majority being NCLTs and a sizeable junk (Freudian slip there 😅) chunk of that from private mints producing under sandbank licenses (or without).
