Greetings my numismatic friends,
I propose to begin collecting U.K. one pound coins (1983 to present) in Au or Unc. condition.
A simple swap would be 3 U.S. dollar coins for each 2 one pound coins. Starting with KM 933 to KM 1238
Or what else?
Gentlemen I thank you for the information.
Based on it, I cancel my proposal to collect the 1 pound coins.
I will continue with the crown size coins.
Trouble with UK 1 pound coins is - they are made of rubbish metal - they get damaged way too easily. Here is a shiny 2012 coin I got (in pocket change) the other day, and it has many knocks on it already ...
So if anyone has any they would be in Royal Mint sealed packages only. With this year being the 30th anniversary of the first 1 pound coin I would have thought the Royal Mint would have seen before now the state they are getting in, and made them of a metal that lasts longer.
Here is the only 1 pound coin I have left after shopping today - went this morning to the Odeon cinema in Milton Keynes to get a free preview of the new film that comes out here on Wednesday, Olympus Has Fallen (it is really good) and this one is 20 years old; look at the knocks on it ...
That isn't really going to cut it for 3 bucks...for an UNC 1983 or others. Nickel Brass has a tendency to wear pretty easily. Some more modern coins are easy to get. I have 3 of the city series for offer.
Coin dealers must have uncirculated circulation samples, how much do they sell for?

I like your proposal. Thought of it myself several times. I'm not giving up hope, yet. I uncancel this topic. Would $3 a piece get a guy AU/UNC 1 pound coins? The mintages are through the roof, they can't be that rare in nice condition.
Best way to find higher grade quids is bank rolls; I had a few - got some XF's of all ages. Unfortunately all gone or in my collection. The best I have left are my St. Helena one and the bridges series. They wear ridiculously !
