Call me crazy, but if I had $500 to spend and I had the option of only one soverign or 10 nice silver coins worth $50 each, I know which one I'd go for.

#2!! The gold up there is pretty plain and isn't looking too good. In fact, it just looks like a typical British colonial "leaves and words" design, as if they weren't even trying (Canada suffered from this until 1937). Clearly Australia was getting a lot more love by 1951 because that commemorative looks GREAT - and, as an amateur astronomer I have to vote for any depiction of the Southern Cross constellation!

I shall admit the small faux pas on my behalf. I got a bit carried off with the content of the half sovereign that I forgot the whole point of this contest. It isn't about the rarity of the coin or the metal, but the eye appeal and the "popularity" (after all, it is called the Most Popular Coin Contest) of the coins. I will not change my vote as I find all sovereigns "manly", but I do not disagree with your vote either.
