Australia - ½ Sovereign - Victoria WINNER

VS

Australia - 1 Florin - George VI

#1, it's gold, plus it has a lot of history behind it. It is also important for MPCC, because it is the first gold coin in MPCC (all of them, 1, 2, and 3).
Number 2, I know number 1 is gold and worth more, But I happen to like silver better than gold and number 2 is a nice simple design and better condition.

Call me crazy, but if I had $500 to spend and I had the option of only one soverign or 10 nice silver coins worth $50 each, I know which one I'd go for.  ;)
#2!! The gold up there is pretty plain and isn't looking too good. In fact, it just looks like a typical British colonial "leaves and words" design, as if they weren't even trying (Canada suffered from this until 1937). Clearly Australia was getting a lot more love by 1951 because that commemorative looks GREAT - and, as an amateur astronomer I have to vote for any depiction of the Southern Cross constellation! 0:)

How can one go against a gold sovereign?? The florin doesn't have a better design at all (unless you have Neil's taste) and it shows a beautiful young Victoria portrait. Looking forward to the sovereign's victory!

1. They are both Australian :.
2. It is actually a half sovereign :wiz:
3. I reserve the right to say that the half sovereign's design is boring as all hell, when it comes to leaves, words, and a crown I've seen it all before :~

Looks like plenty share my taste.  currently 20-6 for the florin in the English forum.  I haven't checked the French side yet, but you may well be waiting for a long time for the sovereign's victory  ;)

I am truly desolate for sounding stupid, calling the florin "Kiwi" (it reminded me the last MPCC Group F round with the 6 pence NZ). I know what you mean that it is a half sovereign, hence I was using a general word "sovereign" to label the coin. I shall apologize to you numismatic intellectuals if my choice of title did not suit you  :~

I shall admit the small faux pas on my behalf. I got a bit carried off with the content of the half sovereign that I forgot the whole point of this contest. It isn't about the rarity of the coin or the metal, but the eye appeal and the "popularity" (after all, it is called the Most Popular Coin Contest) of the coins. I will not change my vote as I find all sovereigns "manly", but I do not disagree with your vote either.

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
