British Shillings

Hi Guys,

I have a question or two regarding British pre-decimal.
I've recently discovered (I'm relatively new to this game) that there were Scottish as well as English shillings in circulation.

So after much digging, I've found the following:
George V shilling: Only 1 design (per year)
George VI shilling (1937-1952): Both English and Scottish crests each year
Elizabeth II shilling (1953-1967): Both English and Scottish crests each year

Am I right in what I've put above?

The florin has always (at least Victoria onwards) had Scottish and Irish crests or emblems on it as well as the English, and the sixpence had similar for Elizabeth II, not found anything to the contrary.

So was it only the shilling that had two coins per year?
And why?

Thanks for looking and any info will be much appreciated as always.

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.

'So was it only the shilling that had two coins per year?' - Yes, see first link, near the end
'And why?' - Not sure

Quote from 1990 UK coinage proof set:

"In 1937 new designs by George Kruger Gray were adopted for the shilling. As a result of criticism of the predominantly 'English' coinage, he designed 2 reverses, one to represent England and the other for Scotland..."
Thanks jimpop, interesting to know.

Hi  could you lend a hand to a 1825 George IV Shilling overdate? I have a 2nd obv and 3 rd reverse but in the 6th Ed of Engl silver coinage there isn´t any. See my pic, below. Much obliged!
