New to Numista and need some info

I have been collecting for a little while, and have always used Numista to research info on my coins, but just recently joined. I only have a small portion of my collection catalogued since it takes forever to do. The same day I joined and added some coins, I started getting A LOT of messages about people offering swaps, and trades, and such. Since I am new I have no idea how to go about something like that, or even if I should. So can a "Vet" here tell me; Should I swap coins with another user? How to swap with them? Any things to look out for, and anything else pertinent I should know about using this site.

Thanks!!!!

Start off with a swap with someone in your own country (cheaper postage).
And do not put tape directly on coins when sending ...

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
Take your time. Only do it if you want. Come out more in the forums, so we get to know you. And just enjoy collecting coins.
It is, what it is, or is it.
If you want to take a little time to get into swapping it's best to go to the "settings" section of the "your account" part on the side bar and change your settings to  "I don't want to swap at all at the moment"  That will stop most people asking for swaps (not all will honour it though, those people you can happily tell to get knotted)

Once you're ready to swap it's a good idea to get to know the people you're going to swap with on the forums before swapping.  It's pretty obvious the ones that are decent swappers and those that are out to swindle you.   Decent swappers will have plenty of good feedback and will only ask for coins that are similar value to the ones in their swap list.  The swindlers will ususally have only a couple of feedbacks and will ask for all your best coins and only have junk in theirs  ;)

Don't be offended if the person you're swapping with asks you to send your coins first, if they've done plenty of swaps and you've done none people are usually a bit wary.  After you've done 5-10 swaps and got good feedback you'll be fine.
Fresh meat does tend to get pounced on here.  The biggest thing is to make sure you swap only with those with a plethora of feedback to start.  As a fellow (almost) newbie, as the member above, I recommend only swapping in country the first 5-10 times to get a feel for how it works. All the people I've swapped with so far have been golden, but I guess some people aren't so lucky. (;0
I did notice a few similarities in a few of the people asking me to swap, about 5 of them asked for about 60 very very common coins, and then one real nice coin. I don't think I could trade anything of value through the mail and still feel comfortable lol. I think I will stick to my goal for my coin collecting, which is at least 1 coin from every country from 1700-present. Thank you all for the advice, it is well accepted!

And don't let the staples touch them!
