I just purchased this coin and am puzzled as to its origin.
I have found this listed as a Canadian Penny with references to Breton #967, Charlton NS22, and Courteau #14.
On Numista it is identified as being from British Guyana.
Anybody???

or it would be if it had ONE STIVER in the middle, instead of the portrait.
 Though I know (for example) some Conder tokens in UK have extra lettering - not on the obverse or reverse, but around the edge. Maybe that is the difference, or the edge could just be plain.

Probably used in both, but Canadian makes more sense looking at the coin.

The Charlton  Standard Catalogue Canadian Colonial Tokens  does list this token
It states
"This one penny token was issued for use in British Guyana....It is doubtful, even though the legends
on this token are similar to ones circulating in Nova Scotia that it was imported in Quantities.  It is more
likely that collectors imported the token towards the end of the century
Penny Tokens did not circulate in Nova Scotia during and after 1838 .  Trade between The Province and the West Indies was of great importance"
