About the size of a dime, but almost oval in shape.
Looks kind of like a lepton but not quite, perhaps that will be a starting place to look

Thanks Neil,  but the print seems to be different from any Judean coins, thanks for the hint though.
I do not know about ancient coins, but the image reminds me of modern coins from South Arabia and Yemen -- the large dots within the points of the stars.
Evynr, you're right it look similar to the symbols on the coins of South Arabia.
I went through the Yemenite coins, but did not see anything similar.

What would be the predecessor of the area of Yemen?
Also could be Moroccan, here's a 1 falus with similar shape and star design

I still haven't found this one :-(
Looks like early Ottoman copper

It does look similar to stuff like this on one side: http://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=123137 but ottoman coins usually have something written on one side.
It might also be Juchid ? They have a LOT of different types of coppers with nothing but some boring geometric design:

WOW thaks so much, that does look very similar and also the "clipped" ends like it was made in string form and afterwards cut from one another.

Thanks again.
