so I have to say this in english. I hope, someone will translate it correctly.

I have one big request to all active members that enter new coins and information:

PLEASE, do not enter wrong mintage years to coins that already exist. And: always check, if the coin already exists in here. some coins seem to be double in amount due to the sorting mechanism of the catalogue. If value is missing, they get most definetly a doppelganger in the list later on. I am currently updating my collection here, and I found a hell lot of errors I am busy to give to Xavier for correcting.
There are several reasons why those errors exist:

1) a metal change throughout years. The coin looks similar but has a new metal. Should get a fresh & new coin entry in this catalogue. most times the corresponding coin has a "a", "b" etc. suffix after its KM# number
2) coin just looks similar (but has some minor text differences or different size). these coins most definetly have their own KM# number.
3) all other reasons (maybe just mistyped numbers when entering coins). In this case: contact Xavier for correction

If you have new coins or new information you have to check carefully if it can be added a coin already present.
Therefore always check catalogues in print or worldcoingallery.com.

Je mets à jour actuellement ma collection sur Numista, et je trouve énormément d'erreurs que je transmets à Xavier pour qu'il les corrige.

Il y a plusieurs raisons qui expliquent ces erreurs :
1) Un changement de métal d'une année à l'autre. La pièce ressemble à une autre pièce, mais elle est fabriquée dans un autre métal. Une nouvelle entrée doit être crée pour elle. La plupart du temps, son numéro KM# comporte le suffixe "a", "b", etc.
2) La pièce ressemble à une autre, mais comporte des différences mineures dans le texte par exemple, ou le diamètre. Lorsque le numéro KM# est différent, une nouvelle entrée doit être créée.
3) Toute autre raison (faute de frappe par exemple). Dans ce cas, prévenez Xavier pour qu'il corrige.

Quand vous avez une nouvelle pièce, vérifiez scrupuleusement si elle correspond à une entrée du catalogue, ou si une nouvelle entrée doit être créée. Pour cela, vérifiez dans un catalogue papier ou sur worldcoingallery.com.

"We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success" This is the principle of this site as everybody may improve it every day, and I knew it when I register. As for "Wikipedia", this principle has proved to be efficient. The difference is that we have, for the moment, more contributors as readers or even less editors. But this will change in the future, and the things will be better... I hope

Ex : one cent les USA 1995.1996.1997 etc. Mais je ne crois pas qu'ils soient ces erreurs que vous dites. Si j'ai commis une erreur, je demande des excuses. J'ai trouvé beaucoup de monnaies qui manquent dans le catalogue, à temps je le passerai à Xavier pour les incorporer.

Yo agregue algunos años.
Ej: one cent EEUU 1995,1996,1997 etc. Pero yo no creo que sean esos errores que usted dice.
Si yo cometí un error, pido disculpas.
Encontré muchas monedas que faltan en el catalogo, con tiempo yo le pasaré a Xavier para incorporarlas.

no honestly, I did'nt want to be insulting or alike. I'm putting quite some time into it because I think - like you - it's definetly worth it. Since not everyone possesses a catalogue to check it might come in handy to get other sources of information and enter these carefully to avoid errors or double posts. just because someone - like me - will probably use these to enter his collection properly. since some coins or years might be deleted if they're double posts or wrong mintage years entered, I suppose your coins you added will be gone, too.   :)

lobocapo, your example is one example of error Makake77 was speaking about. 1995, 1996, 1997... USA 1 cent already existed. You have added these years to the wrong coin type. Since 1982, a new metal is used. This metal change is worth a new entry in the catalog. The new entry already has the years 1995, 1996, 1997, etc. You should have search in the catalog before, with this request for instance: 0.01 USD. You would have seen this metal change.

The number of errors is indeed increasing. Makake77 already reported to me about 100 wrong years. Each time, I have to find what is the correct coin type, in order to move the collections into the correct entry. So the coins you registered in your collection are not lost. But it takes me a lot of time to correcti reported errors and to inspect the catalog.
