They say a picture paints a 1000 words.  Put up a pic and it might help someone identify it

when you hit reply or create a new post there's a button at the top called "image"  click on that and select the option "Thumbnail with link to the original (recommended)" then browse through your computer to find the image and hey-presto you've got your image attached to your message
Look like it could be a UK token:

What a clever lot you are on here.

Although it's badly degraded , I am fairly certain it is indeed the second one (25407) listed by Spookie.

Thanks also for info about posting pictures.

It beggars the question now ... What was it used for in the 1700's . Presumably if it's a token not monetary coinage, and who was Bevois of Southampton.

I probably could go Internet for hours and find out, but I now know someone here will know. :)

That is what to look up for information.
In UK in the late 1700s there was a shortage of lower denomination coins, so local businesses made their own coins/tokens, mainly halfpennies and farthings. The coin images in that second link were added by me.  :)
Also known as an Evasion Halfpenny, or a Promissory Halfpenny.
Bevois Valley is an inner city area of Southampton, England.

P.S. Two years ago I added information here when someone else asked about one ...

and further down I added some pictures of another I had.

"The saga of Sir Bevois, or Bevis, had quasi-historical connections with Southampton, and its literary roots in an Anglo-Norman poetic romance that first appeared in the 12th or 13th century."

Thanks for the support

I felt it was a little sharp and certainly different from all the helpful  advice I've had.
