1908 Piastre de Commerce - Forgery?

Hi Everyone,
First let me say that, yes, I am inclined to be a skeptic, too. These things are counterfeited left and right. But the odd thing is that the mass and the diameter of the coin check out perfectly, which, as I understand it, is a tough thing to accomplish with a silver coin. Plus, it doesn't seem to be magnetic. What do you guys think?
Thanks for your input!
David

I don't think it is genuine at all. That face... x.
Below, I added links to the authentic (I assume  8. ) piastre from the Numista catalogue. Especially when you open both images in separate browser tabs and compare, you see that the left one is lacking a lot of depth and detail. Main points of attention: the face of the lady, the fasces, the wreath on the reverse and the lettering (which is so much lighter, it seems). This may be due to the quality of the image, but I don't think so.
The left one also has remarkable and irregular burrs around the edges, as if it was manufactured with little care for detail, and it hasn't passed through a lot of hands ever since.

It would seriously surprise me if it turned out to be authentic, but I don't feel confident enough to bluntly say that it's a fake. But I do think so.

By the way, if you're interested, there are a lot of forum topics on distinguishing fakes (with the Indochinese piastre featuring as a regular guest), e.g.

Hi. Thanks for the quick feedback. Yeah, I kind of figured it was a fake, but I wanted additional feedback to be sure. I need to stop buying from stores that don't specialise in numismatics, especially in SE Asia - I've also got a beautiful counterfeit of a British Trade Dollar. At least I didn't pay much for either of them, comparatively, which is why I went for them in the first place. On the bright side, if I can find a counterfeit US Trade Dollar, I'll be well on my way to a new collection (I live in Bangkok, so it can't be that hard).
By the way, I took the mass again today on a more precise scale and it worked out not to be 27g, but rather 27.8g - I truly doubt whether coins get heavier with age.
Well, it's all a learning experience!
If you're looking to complete your set of "replica" coins, have a look on eBay, I got an 1878 US Trade Dollar for about £1.50, see my post here:

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.

hello
