Hi,
the coin is now magnetic. Certainly brass covered steel, so the km# is probably going to be 283a!
I do NOT know if a coin just made of brass coin also exists in 2012!

The 50-2012 coin that I've recently found in Guatemala is not just magnetic, but it's also thinner than the previous ones, and has slightly different colour.
And I haven't seen any non-magnetic ones of this year.

Up to 2000, the 50 cts coins were around 1.9 mm in thickness, from 2001 they are 24.2 mm!

And 24,2 mm - that's their diameter.
