Verweis : Fluke
Verweis : Lotus07I'm sorry, but that 1901 Farthing with rainbow toning looks to me like it's a regular Farthing but only polished...
That is why I said pic does it no justice, the shine you see is lustre, pictures cant capture that and it would simply be shiny with no lustre if it was polished. faded Rainbow style satin look.

I am no pro by a long shot, but I can research like a super nerd. You may still be right but all the facts I have researched appear genuine. I will be sending quite a few to NGC for grading and authenticity so they can confirm which of us will be right  :D

I hope you are wrong and I have the real deal. either way the purchase wasn't a bust, £180 profit from a £52 purchase already, so I wont cry if it is fake/polished with some false lustre.  :`
For you I hope indeed that I'm wrong!  :D
Sorry for being sceptical, but the pictures didn't confirm my image of an uncirculated Farthing...

You got me thinking about it, so took it out of its housing and inspected the edge (even though I thought I had when I found it), it is dark.  ;(

So you were right on the money, looks like a clean or they rolled the coin edge over tar. at least the other one has a matching edge colour, doesn't mean it is genuine though. I did a test and polished a battered 1901 Farthing to see how easy the patina comes off, didn't take much effort.

I doubt any I find can be proven now I know how easy it comes off.  :~

This was a real no-brainer. A beautiful note I had my eye on for a while, being sold for below its face value.

Exchange value: $19.77, I bought it for: $15.

Also, besides looking great, it has some added collectible value because this series has been out of circulation for a few years.

Quite pretty note, and as you say, it was a no-brainer, it is like when you manage to get Silver coins at-or-bellow melt value.

When I see foreign notes that are pretty, I then remember we also have some of the prettiest around; and this applies for most countries, as we get so used to them that don't look at them in detail anymore, except those that make their notes all same-sized and green... uhhh! (same size is my major dislike on the USD, because my father was blind and they weren't handicap accessible; the new semi-colored ones look more like mixed clothes with chloride in the washing machine).

Free.

It was meant to be UNC but come with some wear to the high spots seller sent a lower grade one accidentally so has refunded me. Can't complain I guess although I would have happily had the UNC for the price.
Today I received one of my most anticipated packages of this year; with the coins I needed to complete some year sets, including some rare dates.

This I what I got:

1918 .800 @ 27mm was missing this one from the two-year only KM#446
1919 .800 @ 27mm already had this date, but now I'll have to see if this new one with it's bronze-colored patina is in best condition than the one I already have.
1919 .720 same as the previous one will need to compare them to see which one to keep.
1920 .720 the same, already had one for this date but now can choose the best to keep.
1921 .720 was missing this date  :O
1925 .720 Rare year; already had one, so now I will have one for swap for this rare year  X-D
1935 .420 Had one UNC, and this one is also in excellent condition, so will chose which to keep and which to swap for this not-so-rare coin, but since it is single-year it is always harder to find.
1937 .720 New date for my collection.
1939 .720 New date for my collection as well.
1942-1945 .720 Already had one for each of these, so it will only be a matter of keeping the best and swapping the extra one. 42 being a rare year.

With this I've completed my date collection for the KM#446 & 447

This was an awesome lot, it included almost all dates, with three rare years 1918, 1925 and 1942. It only missed the 1938 which is the rarest date of all, and which I am lucky enough to already own. It was good that it didn't included it, or it might had attracted more attention to the auction, as that date alone goes for around $100. And I got this lot out of the auction with Registered mail shipping for $89.95

Yesterday I got my first "banknote" from Spitsbergen/Svalbard:

On Svalbard there were numerous coal mining companies and one of them, the American Arctic Coal Company issued these type of coupons, which had a value in USD. These were issued for the miners so they could purchase goods at the local mining shop. I've you wanted these coupons you had to pay 25 USD and they gave you a booklet with coupons of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50c and 1$, with in total a value of 25 USD. Unfortunately the mining company closed down and many of these booklets were left unused. They don't have a date, but they're issued around 1915.

Also, some coins of my own country came in today:

1/2 cent 1865
1 cent 1863
1 cent 1883
25 cents 1825

Last week I went to the nearest (30 minute drive) coin shop to me, only to get there at 11am opening time to see a 'closed' sign in the window. So I came back disappointed as who knows what was in there in their charity section (people come in and give unwanted coins to the  shop, as any money they receive from coins sold in that section goes straight to charity). So today one week later I go in at the same time (he said he was closed last week as he was selling at a coin fair in London), and there are very very few coins in the old (before 1860) section; but I got a few. Plus in other parts (each type of coin has its own tin or plastic bucket on the shop floor) I got some commemorative 25 Pence and 50 Pence along with a few foreign coins.
While I was in the shop a father and son came in, and I let the father sit in the chair I was in (the shop is really small and only one desk and chair in the public area). The son handed the shop owner a bag, and after a few minutes I overheard the owner say 'normally when people bring a bag of assorted coins in there are very few that I would buy, but today it is the other way round - most of what you have I want'. I wish I knew what he had brought in; I do know he received about £260 in cash for the coins (mostly UK and some foreign silver I guess). I also heard the man say he was a builder and over the years had found them while working on empty houses and that he had more at home. What the shop owner did not want he handed back (a small plastic bag which I could see had banknotes in plus some coins) so rather cheekily I said to the man I will give you a pound for it, and he agreed.
I dare not (at the time) look to see what I had bought but thought it may be worth a gamble, for a pound. Just got back and do not know why the shop owner did not look in it or want it, as there are quite a few silver coins in there!
Pictures below - the first is what I bought from the shop and the other two are what was in the £1 bag. Not started to look up what I have yet; will make my usual list (for my own reference really) in a later reply.  :)

Thanks - after the man left I was tempted to ask the shop owner what he had bought, but as I had hardly any money with me I did not; even though I would have loved to see if there was any nice foreign silver! Will never know.
Yes, those with the bills are what I think are silver-looking, and just now added a reply which lists them. There is a Rhodesian coin in there; well spotted.  :)

P.S. In anticipation of a certain member asking for them, of the seven Swiss coins I have put five aside, as the other two are already in his collection. So 1911 and 1921 are not wanted, but 1912, 1920, 1928, 1944, 1945 are!  :°

You are too kind. I will check my dates and get back to you!
Today I received another of the few Mexican Proof sets for circulation coins.

The Revolution and Independence Black box complete Prooflike set. It is important to mention that it is the Black box one, as there where other 2 types of presentations; the Red and Green small boxes with 6-7 coins each, and the separated Brown and Green collections of the Independence and Revolution, each with one of the complete sets. And only the Black box presentation contains all the coins in a single presentation.

Only 4200-4800 each coin of these where made. The other two types of presentations got nearly 85% of them, so that leaves only aprox. 650 Black box sets. It was hard finding one, but it surprisingly it wasn't as expensive as I was fearing (also since I got it from one of my most reliable sellers gave a nice cut on the price).

I am sure in the future this will prove to be an excellent purchase, the common circulating ones are already pretty hard to see around, and these Proof ones are the first ones that I physically see.

Bought them from desperation.  Asked all my usual questions, and nope nope nada.  Can't go home empty handed.  I don't  collect these really, probably end up giving them to my daughter. Which look best to you?
In your photos? Well, taking count of the age of the coins and how it does look on the photos... The Nazi 1935 5 Reichmark looks really nice, more than your oldest one (Panama 1930, highly oxidized). The Netherlands Indies are quite nice too.

Heinola has some really good antique shops and I'm always doing bargain finds here.

I bought these for 10 euros from the same shop where I bought the soviet proof coins and old silver pennies.

I also bought an authentic Burberry trench coat from a charity shop for 30 euros :8D, best bargains are always found from small countryside shops.
More high-face-value banknotes...

This is why it's always a good idea to memorize exchange rates: these 70 reais were priced at $14, and their true value is $26.40. Pas mal!

I know that the Brazilian real is not likely to gain value over time, so the best choice would be to sell these as soon as possible... but... they're so beautiful :snif:
About 3 years ago, I managed a Bowling Centre. I have kept in touch with one of my ex-employees whom has moved on too. She recently gave me the following.........

1980 Britain 5 Pence
1990 Britain 20 Pence
2012 Britain 5 Pence
1982 Netherlands Antilles 25 cent
2002 Euro 20 euro cent
2005 Euro 2 euro
1998 Mexico 10 peso
2005 Mexico 10 peso
2007 Mexico 1 peso
2000 Cuba 1 peso
1951 Ireland 1 Schilling
1986 French Polynesia 10 franc
2001 New Zealand 50 cent
1999 Australia 50 cent
2012 Trinidad Tobago 10 cent
1962 Switzerland 20 rappen
1972 Switzerland 1 franc
1973 Switzerland 2 francs

Total cost $0.00 USD (in fact, she gave me a nice hug).

I think I just may try to become a 300 Country Club member (not!).

Found this for $0.15 U.S. There is an edge ding, but still a good find.

Had the chance to look through a few bags of " scrap " silver UK coins the other day at my friends jewellery shop, most of them where trashed but I did rescue a few basically as bullion.
I did find 3 unusual pieces which I couldn't leave behind especially as I was allowed them at .500 price.
I got - 4 half crowns, 12 florins, 2 shillings and 3 sixpences

The other pieces are
2 sterling silver medals from 1935/36 issued to a lady for winning the amateur mile swimming champs

Finally - 1978 german 5 mark, Balthazar Neumann commemorative non circulating type

I was fortunate enough to get the lot for 15p per gram, already ahead with the 2 medals and 5 Mark.
I deny nothing but doubt everything, opinions are made to be changed, how else is the truth to be gotten at.
Pfff, I made a whole list and pictures after my visit to the biggest coin fair in the Netherlands yesterday, and when I clicked on "send" everything was gone.
I have regularly all kinds of problems since the new text editor is in use here.
Do yourself a favor ... if you want to write a bigger text or a post with many pictures ... save the source code in an editor.
I have lost many posts even in the old version.
Thank you very much for your advice Idolenz. It's frustrating to put time and effort in a post and then loose it in an instance without any chance of restoring.
I never had this problem in the old version though.
most of us are posting in the monthly "additions to your collection" posts, because the bargain finds post gets pretty long and takes a long time to load.
We should try to separe in a monthly topic or something a little longer but interrupted each 2/3/6 months to make it not too much long

Saturday I was at the biggest coin fair of the Netherlands. One of the exhibitors (Mevius Numisbooks International) sold coin catalogs for 5 euros per kilo.
I bought:

- 2015 Krause Standard Catalog of World coins, 1901 - 2000, 42nd editon for only 11,5 euros.
- W. Hasselman. Die privaten Notmunzen. Nichtamliche Ausgaben von 1916 - 1922 (German emergency coinage) for 2,5 euros.
- Standard Catalogue of Canadian Municipal Trade Tokens & Notes by Serge Pelletier for 3 euros.

Among a lot of other coins I also bought at that coin fair a job lot consisting of 143 coins + some tokens for 10 euros (less than 7 eurocent per coin!). In that job lot was a USA Eisenhower dollar, a Liberian dollar, a Canandian 50 cents, a Cuban 3 pesos, a Dutch 1/2 cent, a Tunesian dinar, a Guernsey 10 shilling, an Australian 50 cents commemorative, a Mauritanian 5 ouguiya, a Malta 1 lire and even a silver Straits Settlements 50 cents:

Rather sad that the owner of my favourite (and only) local coin store is closing in two months. But he has recently got another about ten miles away, so will have a look in there in the New Year. I might go the current store before Christmas and maybe get some closing bargains - like I did today; I paid £6 for all in this first picture ...

So quite a few different denomination Irish coins, some really old foreign coins, a few silver coins, four banknotes, and some tokens. Will take me a while to see what is there. :)

That's a lovely lot, ZacUK. Well done.
Thanks - and none of the money goes to the shop - all those are from the charity 'section' which are tubs and buckets on the floor in a corner of the shop - donations of unwanted coins are put in them by visitors. Also I guess you did not want any of the Swiss silver I wrote about on here a while ago (20 Jun); I still have them here, somewhere !?!

Finally, four Midland Bank blue paper bags for 5/- (five shillings or 1/4 pound) of copper coins; with Established 1836 and on the back of three of them an advertisement 'Midland Bank Home Safes are issued free at any branch, interest allowed'. I pulled them out of the rubbish bin in the shop!

Here is the unknown forest scene token with 1 Penny face value, in case someone knows it. The reverse is rather worn, and I can make out lines ending in NOTE then OKEN at end of next line, and next has BY in it, then next line starts JO or JU and all else unclear. Thanks!

Also there is something written above ONE PENNY which does not look like VALUE and is more like VA?C? but not sure. The edge has no lettering, just sloping central graining. Size 33mm.

EDIT: A few hours later, and it is this one ...

My local coin shop closes down today; not for good luckily but just relocating (a little closer to me). So I bought an album and case for £10 (was £8 and £6) and he gave me five large capsules free for my medallions collection. I will visit the other shop early in New Year, as he said he will still accept coin donations for charity - these are what £5 got me today. Shame it is nearly dark here as pictures are not too good. Will make a list below of what I got ...
