From my part : I put every coin on VF (Very Fine)
If the coin seems to have not been in circulation I put it on XF (Extremely Fine).
If I see one defect, I put the coin on F (Fine)
If I see more than one defect, it's only VG (Very Good)
(I'm reading the old posts looking for advise on trading, and wanted to bring this to the top)
What is considered a defect in the coin trading world? For the last few months I've been trying to collect good quality specimens for trading, but every circulated coin seems to have scratches and gashes in them (and look worse under a loop, or course).
This one is kind of interesting. How exactly do you grade your coins VG, F, VF, XF etc Perhaps someone can post pictures of coins from each grade so we have something to compare against.
excellent, I look forward to seeing the results. Personally I stick anything that looks uncirculated at XF, any little spots of wear drop it to VF, nice clear detail but obvious wear down to F and then VG and so on.
