Error 2006 P Non Magnetic Cent ICCS Certified MS-66 Rarely Offered from eBay is this true? and why?
C $10,000.00
It was an error during the production - instead of copper plated steel, copper plated zinc was used to mint some of the coins. According to "A Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian coins, 2014", 82 pieces are know to exist. Price, according to the same catalog, is 250 Canadian dollars. I can easily imagine that the real price is higher but $10K is no more than a wishful thinking, good luck to the seller with that.

thank you so much now I know.. have a nice day..
How would I know the difference between the different kinda of 2006 pennies. I put one under 2006 mule coin. Wonder if it should be somewhere else.

It is rather easy - all of them have the same design of the avers and reverse, the difference is in the composition/mint mark under the queen effigy. The are 3 variants:
- no mint mark/no composition mark
- P (composition mark that supposed to mean "Plated")
- RCM logo mintmark (or just Logo, a maple leaf )
All three variants exist in both magnetic and non-magnetic versions = total 6 varieties, the P non-magnetic being really rare.
I believe that there is an error in our Numista catalog - a mule should be 2006P, not 2006 (no logo no mintmark) - unless there is one more variety that I am not aware about. And, strictly speaking, 2006P non-magnetic is not a mule but is a material mix-up - whatever you call it.

Double-checked it - and I was wrong, there is a material mix-up of 2006 (no logo no composition), some of them were made out of plated steel instead of plated zinc the are therefore magnetic. This is the one that we have in Numista catalog as a "mule" and it's coinage indeed is 222 (known) pieces.
We just need to add 3 more varieties to our catalog:
- regular 2006 (no mintmark no composition) non-magnetic, coinage 886,275,000
- material mix-up 2006P (non-magnetic), 82 pieces known and
- split 2006L (RCM logo) to two versions, magnetic and non-magnetic

So if my coin is magnetic with no mintmark from 2006 then it is one of 222?

If it has no P and no logo and is magnetic - yes. I believe there are more than 222 of them around, but the price of red MS64 of this coin still should be in a range of US$150.

How I like that managers or master on the production line in the mint who "occasionally", by mistake (INDEED BY MISTAKE? COME ON!! :8D<:D) changed the alloy and struck some amount of coins with another metal composition.

I dont believe in such occasional mistakes. Previously, some ages ago, may be in early 19-20 century when it was not worldwide hobby of coins collection, we can find such occasional metal replacements. But not in 21st century. It is a fairytale. I am somehow 99% sure it was a request from somebody or by someones mint worker initiative to create some 'errors' to get money for that later. :)

But anyway it gives us, coins collectors more chances to get some 'rare' ultra puper-duper mistakes occasionally (ha-ha) struck. :8D
I have to disappoint you - yes, it was an unintentional mistake. Most of these "error" coins have been destructed and only few have slipped in to circulation, therefore so few are known. Chronologically, they first minted noP/noLogo on zinc, than switched to P version on steel and in a second half of the year they switched again - this time to Logo version which has been minted on both metals. Both errors happened during the first switch - just remember that it is not a single press and single person who does all that, and with a dozen of presses and simultaneous change of all dies and metal everything can happen.
I have a friend of mine who used to work at RCM - he told me a lot about how it is organized and how tightly everything is controlled and believe me, the scenario with any "intentional" error is simply impossible.

Deliberate errors are known as "Mint Sport" :° :° :°

.. It is rumoured that there has been some "Mint Sport" at the Royal Australian Mint in the past.
