Today's haul. My first bit of coin shoppng since November. $112 total. I'll keep the two silver dollars, the half crowns, the Southern Rhodesia Crown and the beautiful dark toned 2 Marks on the bottom row which is in my view the pick of the crop. I have one already but this one is far better.
The rest will go into the junk silver pile or my swap list.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

The I B countermark was attributed to Lower Canada by Greg Brunk (and others before him). The I. K. K. countermark was unknown to him. The coin is quite thinner and lighter than a normal large cent; it was planed down before I. K. K. was stamped.
The second pic is a close-up to show the "ghosting" of Liberty inside the letters.
Gosh - did not see that!
Yes, and even better looks like 0 number overstamped with I letter,
as the I does not match the other 1 number at the start of date.
All I put on these similar topics are titles and images from the sellers,
and this one has not arrived yet; will check when it does. Thank you!
Great eyes Ed Nice coins ZacUK. I usually don't post here. But got some nice coins from the 1950's up. And this one for 10 dollars
Gave me a day off and got some coins and holders.
Verweis : "Jesse11"A spur of the moment eBay purchase: four silver coins for $24 shipped:
Belgium, 50 cents, 1898
Portugal, 50 reis, 1893
Great Britain, 3 pence, 1881
Germany, 5 Reichsmark, 1934J
You win the ebay lottery good sir. The quirks of the current market and buyer's tastes mean it's pretty easy to pick up very high grade coins just by marginally outbidding the silver bugs. I'm loving it.
If you ever get bored looking at that pretty 3d you know where to find a loving home for it.

to get them before anyone else did ...

'Jeton Louis XV - EXTRAORDINAIRE DES GUERRES - 1759 - Feuardent 861'

All have lovely reverse designs - bees flying towards the sun,
beehive with a swarm of bees, thunder clouds with lightning bolts.
Nice! I am drooling over the 1759, don't have one of those. Enjoy it for a while and I will try to get it in a year or so. I need to get decent pictures and start adding my collection first.
How do you manage to get such nice focused close up pictures? Most of mine end up blurred.
Edit; Just looked a lot more carefully at my 1731's and I have 3 different busts than the 2 you have posted. How many varieties were there?
Verweis : "Beekeeper"Here are the ones I have. My phone seems to be better than my cameras for this. Also have a bit of a lighting problem , they are all silver.
They are rather nice!! I did not realise there was more than one obverse. Will have to remember
them and look out for more. Those pictures, and titles, and from the seller.
I do though have a digital microscope ... https://en.numista.com/forum/topic31452.html#p265795

I thought you would appreciate that one! I'll be keeping the 3d for quite a while. It's at least EF (I can't really confidently distinguish between EF and AU on these coins). The Portugal coin is also EF with really lovely iridescent toning. The Belgium 50c is probably a VF but again very nicely toned, sort of a cameo look. I already had a dipped 5 RM in perhaps slightly better grade, but I think I may keep this one instead. Very dark and grimy, as befits its history. I was kind of alarmed to pick these up so far below book value, to be honest!

'Ceylon. King George III. 1815. One Stiver'
That Ceylon coin is awesome. Really like the design.
There is one with a similar elephant design coming up soon in the MPCC for Asia, make sure to get your vote in
I got a bulk lot in yesterday that was strong in Africa. There was a lot of stuff that I don't collect (dated after 1945) from Southern Rhodesia, Rhodesia, Rhodesia and Nyasaland, Swaziland, Zambia, Malawi, Botswana, Mozambique, a couple more. But I did manage to find some coins to add to my collection
So, DEVINS & BOLTON countermarked over BFA in large letters. BFA is unlisted in Brunk.
Can you see that it is a US large cent? The dealer says c. 1816-1857. I agree, but I'm wondering whether one could narrow it down to either 1816-1839 (Coronet) or 1839-1857 (Braided Hair) based on the shape of the head and especially of the bun. I may be able to read one or two digits in the date, though this is not obvious from this photo:
A tall order, I suppose...
EDIT: Here is the full obverse pic:
Right click > "Open Link in New Window/Tab" for full size. I have my idea of what period it belongs to, but I hope others in the Numista community will provide their learned opinion.
& I have come to the conclusion that the date is entirely lost.
Verweis : "Roublizer"Here is some more coins for this month
A Japanese koban from the Tempo era, now my longest and heaviest gold coin.
A dinar from the Lu'lu'id dynasty. I primarily wanted this coin because its one of the heaviest of its type and I wanted a coin minted in Mosul.
Verweis : "Camerinvs"This came in today:

Definitely the Matron Head version - the curls on the back go all the way down. The other version has a large gap in the curls, which isn't there on this example.
I agree, the date is probably completely worn away (it certainly isn't visible on the photo, anyway).
I'm working on some photos of my own purchases - hoping to be able to post them here before the end of January
one more ore step in the long path toward the type set. This is the sesquicentennial half dollar. When I got it today some brought a full type set into the coin store... it was like a holy grail of coins!

You must have a pretty sizeable collection of trade tokens by now.

True - these days I just flick through listings as most seem familiar.
I never seem to have time currently to see if they are on here already; so I
don't know how many need adding. Hopefully soon.
Purchased today on eBay this Prince Edward Island token:
It was dated to 1858 by Breton (#921) and to "about 1858" by Charlton (#PE-8). The Charlton catalogue now lists two varieties, thick and thin flans, as reported in the Numista catalogue.
This is part of an exchange I did with a collector from Russia, who is not on the Numista website, but I have exchanged with him many times now, and obtained most of my modern Russian coins.
This collection, in its original folder is "The Capitals liberated by the Soviet Troops from Fascist Invaders", and contains 14 coins, all with a face value of 5 Roubles
The back page lists the cities and dates they were liberated in chronological order.
The statue in the second picture, I believe is in Kiev and I have stood inside of it.
